Nevada Birthday Rule

The Medicare Rule That Started With One Conversation.

When I lived in California, I regularly used California’s Medicare Supplement Birthday Rule to help eligible clients review their coverage and, when appropriate, change companies without medical underwriting.

After moving to Nevada in 2016, I discovered Nevada consumers didn’t have the same opportunity.

A friend was paying substantially more for his Medicare Supplement than comparable coverage could cost elsewhere, yet health underwriting limited his ability to change. I thought Nevada seniors deserved another option.

So I Asked a Legislator to Listen

I contacted a local Nevada assemblywoman, explained the problem, and discussed how a Birthday Rule could give Medicare Supplement policyholders more choices. Legislation followed and Nevada ultimately adopted a Medicare Supplement Birthday Rule.

Why It Matters

Medicare Supplement premiums can increase significantly. A Birthday Rule can give eligible policyholders a recurring opportunity to review available coverage under the rules in effect at that time.

That doesn’t mean changing every year. It means having a choice.

The point isn’t to move a policy. The point is to make sure a client isn’t overpaying simply because health has taken away their options.

Let's Review Your Options

If you’re a Nevada Medicare Supplement policyholder approaching your birthday, I can help you review the current rules, compare available options, and determine whether staying or changing makes more sense.
